Journaler's Corner: Writing to Depressurize New Years by Dr. Beth Jacobs

The Holidays have arrived, and so has Dr. Karen Gail Lewis's very helpful Single Womens Holiday Survival Guide!! Dr. Lewis provides some very practical and empowering approaches to managing common challenges when visiting family and creating your own celebrations.

In "Resisting Expectations During the Holidays and Everyday", Dr. Bella DePaulo provides a valuable exercise to help you prepare for holiday parties and the inevitable question "So what's new in your life?" She also suggests a game that you can play when you get bored.

Dr.DePaulo has also written some other useful articles for singles facing the holidays For example, maybe it's time to create a different and refreshing holiday for yourself by staying home.  DePaulo has also pointed out that single people may face expecctations that they are free to pick up the slack during the holidays, when married coworkers with children need to take the time off.

Finally, she discusses the changing patterns of celebrating and connecting in "Holiday Spirit, 21st Century Style: Kay Trimberger and I Share our Vision."

VALENTINE'S DAY SURVIVAL GUIDE
 WHERE IS LOVE?

This Valentine's Day, why not broaden your vision of LOVE...Maybe you don't have a partner, but it doesn't mean you can't and don't have love in your life? In Single Women: Reclaim Valentine's Day, Dr. Karen Gail Lewis reminds us that "Back in elementary school, you knew Valentine's Day was not about lovers, but about love and caring and friendship..."  Dr. Bella DePaulo also reminds us of the Bigger Broader Meanings of Love and Romance. To free yourself from being "stuck in" or "stuck out" of love, check out the Dating and Romance section in MySingleSpace.  And finally, Dawn Greaney, in her lovely reflective essay,  asks "Who's Really Single and Happy Anyway?"
